Some people just get us and some people are probably wondering "Why?".
We're aware that some people are with us from the start. They get the concept/joke. They love these tokens and don't need a backstory to enjoy them. For some people it's not quite so simple. Maybe they're just skeptical, too mature for this kind of humor or don't see the point. Fair enough. For others... the only and obvious question after seeing a Dick Token is... why? Well it's more complicated than that (not really).
So what's the origin story of our dick joke?
It all started with Magic 30. You know, that $1000 box of rubbish that Wizards of the Coast decided to give to the wealthy in a post COVID climate. Down at the LGS our group of lads decided it was time to give the cheaper Magic the Gathering cards some love. We all agreed to make a pauper EDH deck and play them in a few weeks time.
Having never gone wide and played a token themed deck I figured that I'd give it a go. I quickly realized I may have made a mistake, seeing how many of the tokens I didn't have. They weren't something I often kept after cracking a pack. Additionally with most of my recent purchases being singles there weren't any showing up in the mail.
So for expediency's sake I figured I would just draw some tokens on blank cards and on some paper. Problem with this? I'm not an artist. My Pegasus looked like a mutant rhino. My soldier looked like a stick figure holding a used condom. So as you do when bored, immature and staring at a blank canvas... I drew a dick and slapped some wings on it. Boom, there was my Pegasus.
That was it. All of my tokens were going to be dicks.
This is what tabletop games, RPGs, hidden identity games and TCGs were missing in my opinion. They all needed a bit of dick. Or at least a bit more childish, immature humor on the table. From there the task was finding an artist, a printer and all of the other stuff involved to bring them to market.
Now there are five different dick tokens available for your gaming needs. Five more are due to drop on March 24 with the Beta. From there who knows... the goal is for a named set this summer and then a stand alone game. Keep an eye on this blog and our social media to stay up to date.
